About Us

Abia State Union UK & EIRE Ltd is the apex Body for all the Abia State indigenes and communities in the United Kingdom.

We had no intention to form a community organisation in UK.  We did not belong to any either.  But the lack of recognition of Abia State at the End of Year Dinner Party hosted by the Nigerian High Commission in UK on December 2013 was more than we could take.  Prompted by this lack of recognition of Abia State at the Event, we set out to know the reason; but only to be told point-blank by the High Commissioner himself, His Excellency Dr Tafida that Abia State had neither presence nor representative  at the High Commission.  This meant that, though we Abians existed as individuals in the UK, we were absent collectively. On January 16th 2014, Mr Uche Kay (Chairman Emeritus) founded Abia State Union UK & EIRE Ltd.  After the formal registration and recognition by the Nigeria High Commission UK, and Central Association of Nigerians in UK Mr Uche Kay reached out to other Abians who later became the founding members.  These founding members who contributed positively include Godwin Amaefula, Kelechi Ekugo, Godson Azu, Kalu Ndukwe, Ugochukwu Onukwubiri and Frank Alaribe.  One honourable individual who positively boosted our morale in the formative stage is Mr Sam Okwulehie.  He was a brother in need and a brother indeed.

Our Vision

To create a community in continuum that ensures the recognition of the existence of Abia State,  takes care of the welfare of Abians in the United Kingdom; and supports sustainable development in Abia State Nigeria.

Our Mission

So Far so Good

The tasks have been arduous.  Abians in the UK thrive on community/village associations and there seems to be no appetite for collective interactions at the State level.  We held series of meetings with community leaders, we had few successes, but efforts are still being made to persuade other community leaders to see the bigger collective picture at the State level.  There have been huge successes in driving individual membership.  The team has been doing well on this area.  We have a vibrant social forum.  Since 2014, we have continuously held End of Year Party.  Abia State has been on the forefront in community engages compared to other States in the UK.  Leadership succession has been established.  The Organisation has continued to stand strong with members in their good and bad times – this is what welfare is all about.
